Cristin’s Poetry in Rattle E-Issue

Cristin to be perform at SUNY Freedonia

Cristin is thrilled to be the opening poet for the SUNY Fredonia English Department’s Visiting Writers Series. Cristin and the English Department will hold a craft talk at 4 p.m. on Sept. 30, in Room 127 of Fenton Hall, and a reading of her work will follow at 7 p.m. in Room 101 of Thompson Hall. Students, faculty members and the general public are invited to attend. After the reading there will be a pie-raffle with baked goods provided by Fredonia’s Uppercrust Bakehouse as well as a book giveaway made possible by The Book Nook, also of Fredonia. Cristin is thrilled that her poem, “Poet Not About the Brooklyn Bridge,” is in the latest issue of the November 3rd Club, a fantastic literary journal with a political edge that is edited by her pal & fellow Write Bloody author, Victor D. Infante. Also, published in this issue are wonderful new poems by Jon Sands, Tony Brown, Emily Kagan Trenchard, Geoff Kagan Trenchard and Corrina Bain. The last time the duo featured there was at the “Welcome to NYC Shappy” feature in 2001, so this feature — their last non-BPC NYC feature — serves as a nice bookend. Show starts at 7pm. Cristin to Perform at The Drums Inside Your Chest Concert Series

Cristin will be joining extraordinary poets like National Book Award Finalist Patricia Smith, two-time National Poetry Slam champion Anis Mojgani and international-known musical mastermind C.R. Avery, among others, at the fourth incarnation of The Drums Inside Your Chest, a concert series celebrating the best of contemporary poetry. The show, which is being produced by poets Amber Tamblyn and Mindy Nettifee and is being hosted by Derrick Brown, will happen in LA at the Largo Theatre, Saturday August 14th. Cristin to Perform at 20th Annual National Poetry Slam

Cristin and the rest of the NYC Urbana 2010 Poetry Slam Team (Elliott D. Smith, Brian Omni Dillon and Omar Holmon) will battle poets from across the nation at the 2010 National Poetry Slam (Aug 3 – Aug 7). In addition to competing in the evening, Cristin will be participating in numerous day and late night events including hosting a panel discussion on publishing (with Penguin’s Karen Finneyfrock, Write Bloody’s Anis Mojgani and Penmanship Books’s Mahogany Browne), performing with her partner Shappy at the Encyclopedia show and being the resident lady nerd at the National Nerd Slam, hosted by Robbie Q Telfer and Shappy Seastholtz. Cristin named 2010-2011 ArtsEdge Writer-In-Residence at University of Pennsylvania

From the press release: “The University of Pennsylvania’s Kelly Writers Houseis excited to announce the recipient of the 2010-2011 ArtsEdge Residency: New York City-based poet and author Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz. ArtsEdge is a collaborative residency project designed to encourage the careers of emergent writers. Residencies last for one year and include an apartment, studio space in the AIR Space artistic nexus on 40th street, and close affiliation with Penn’s writing communities. Aptowicz plans to use the ArtsEdge residency to work on a non-fiction book about the life and times of Thomas Dent Mutter, founder of the Philadelphia’s Mutter Museum. The Mutter Museum has granted Aptowicz full access to their museum, library and archives so that she may conduct her research for the book. Additionally, the Mutter Museum’s Francis C. Wood Institute for the History of Medicine has awarded Aptowicz with a Wood Institute Travel Grant to help further fund and support her work on this project. In addition to her writing projects, Aptowicz will get involved with Kelly Writers House programs and teach a Spring 2011 Creative Writing course at Penn focusing on non-fiction and poetry.” To read the full press release, click here.

Cristin to Perform at the NYC-Urbana Group Piece Recording Party & Send-Off Show

Cristin and the rest of the NYC Urbana 2010 Poetry Slam Team (Elliott D. Smith, Brian Omni Dillon and Omar Holmon) will record all of the group pieces we will be taking to Nationals for both video & audio purpose at this annual event. But really, it’s a party & send-off show, featuring all kinds of awesome local poets, auction items and maybe a burlesque dancers or two. Doors open at 6:30pm! Show up early for seats!
