Cristin is absolutely thrilled to be hitting the road for most of Fall 2014, and giving performances / readings in Philadelphia, NYC, Austin, Columbus, Ann Arbor, Chicago, Minneapolis, Omaha, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver among other places! If you are in the area, please come on out!

DR MÜTTER’S MARVELS Event at the Free Library of Philadelphia
Cristin is honored to be doing a book event with the Free Library of Philadelphia. She will in conversation with F. Michael Angelo, M.A., University Archivist and Head of Historic Collections, Thomas Jefferson University, about her book, DR MUTTER’S MARVELS. Granted unprecedented access to Philadelphia’s famous museum of medical oddities, specimens, and antique medical equipment, Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz has penned an in-depth and revelatory biography of its eccentric and brilliant founder, Thomas Dent Mütter. Once described as the “P.T. Barnum of the surgery room,” the flamboyant and forward-thinking Mütter helped established Philadelphia as the epicenter for global medical innovation.

DR MÜTTER’S MARVELS Event at BookPeople in Austin
Cristin returns to her adopted hometown of Austin, TX, to talk about her latest book, DR. MÜTTER’S MARVELS. In its starred review for the book, KIRKUS REVIEW wrote “In her deftly crafted narrative, the author provides an absorbing account of the charismatic surgeon’s life and career as well as a vivid look at the medical practices and prejudices of his time. His students adored him, and the disfigured flocked to him… His life story will move many readers.” Cristin will be bringing some interesting Mütter artifacts from her own collection, as well as some other surprises!
