Cristin has been an invited to parciptate in the Hamptons International Film Festival Screenwriters Conference (Sept 9 – Sept 12), which is a 4-Day private conference held in East Hampton for 5 selected writers to receive one-on-one script development with produced writer/ mentors. The Sloan Foundation, which specializes in promoting films about science and technology, is underwriting Cristin’s participation at the conference after she submitted Mütter for consideration. In additional to the weeklong conference, alumni writers benefit from programs at the festival like the International Forum and Special Panels, as well as the Screenwriters Alumni Series, where past conference participants get an opportunity to showcase their work at quarterly events such as table reads, networking events, workshops and, ultimately, screenings of their completed work.
Following the tradition of the two previous NPS Anthologies, Poetry Slam, Inc (the governing body of the American Poetry Slam) chooses two editors for its annual anthology from its current community of writers. This year, Cristin was chosen as one of the two editors of the 2004 Anthology. The other editor will be playwright, comedian and NPS commentator Jeremy Richards, for whom Cristin is a huge fan! Curated and hosted by Bob Holman, Cristin will perform in the final of three live shows which will be edited down for the NPR pilot. This will be Cristin’s second time hosting the lauded annual event, having first done so in 2002. This time around, he will co-host with slam legend Michael Salinger. For more information, please check out the National Poetry Slam website here.
Cristin will accompany the 2004 NYC Urbana Team as the make their way through the 2004 National Poetry Slam, held this year in St. Louis. This is Cristin’s 6th trip the National Poetry Slam, and the team’s trip will be filmed for the “Slam Planet” documentary. For more on the documentary, please check out the Slam Channel website here.
“Mutter,” which previously won the 2003 Philadelphia Film Festival Screenplay compeition, finished in the top 10% of the Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting, an international competition sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picutres which rewards new screenwriters, as well as in the top 10% at the Austin Film Festivals Annual Screenwriting Competition.
Cristin will helm an evening of slamming which will see her team, NYC Urbana, face off against a rough-and-tumble team from the Bronx as well as the amazing team from Austin, TX. The documentary film crew will be in attendance, so if you are coming through, look sharp and feel free to chant Cristin’s name for no reason at all!
