Come one, come all to the NYC-Urbana Finals hosted by Cristin (who founded the series in 1998 at the age of 19). Slated to compete are some of the country’s best performance poets and as an added bonus, the entire evening will be filmed by Confessions Multimedia for a documentary film that will follow both the Urbana and Austin Teams on their roads to the 2004 National Poetry Slam. Cristin and her boyfriend / touring partnet Shappy have been chosen as the Featured Poets of the Month on the Def Poetry Jam website. Please feel free to check out their spotlight here for the entire month of May.
Cristin will be performing new and old works in assocation with UCSC’s Kinetic Poetics Project. The Kinetic Poetics Project includes several free events of spoken word and performance poetry, workshops, a “Community Open Mic,” featuring workshop participants and community artists, a night of “Featured Spoken Word Artists,” and a panel discussion. Reprising her role as the “poet” of the Chamber Dance Company, Cristin will perform with the famed and innovative ballet company five times during the course of January (Jan 9 – Jan 17). As twist to her previous performances with Chamber Dance, the original ballet choreographed to match with Cristin performing her work “To Whom It May Concern” live will be performed by the choreographer, himself, Victor Quijada. Cristin will be performing at the Chamber Dance Studio Space on the evenings of January 9, 11 and 15th, at the Guggenheim Symphony Space on January 12th and at the Tarrytown Music Hall on January 17th. A short film based on Cristin’s script, Mütter, and directed by Philadelphia filmmaker Eugene Martin, will premier at Philadelphia’s infamous Mutter Museum . The Mutter Museum was founded by Thomas Dent Mutter, the protaganist of Cristin’s script, and was also where Cristin spent most of her time researching for the script. The premier, which is open to the public, starts at 8:30pm.
With Melbourne-based release parties within days of one another, Cristin is very proud to now be a part of two Australia’s most accomplished literary journals. One of her poems her found poems from her days working in porn was published in swingers themed issue of the fabulous journal, “Going Down Swinging” edited by a couple of her brilliant aussie pals, Adam Ford, Alicia Sometimes, Stephen Grimwade and Anna Hedigan (see pics of Adam and Alicia here). Simutaneously, Cristin’s poem “Lit” (to hear an audio file of this poem, please check it out here) was published in one of the most exceptionally inspired lit mags being published today, “Voiceworks”. This literary magazine is dedicated to publishing the work of young Australian artists, with an ‘up-to-age-25′ cut off limit. Cristin barely squeeked in there. Cristin’s work is featured in their “D.I.Y.” issue, which Cristin refers to as “one of the most youth-artist-empowering literature [she] has ever read!”
From Oct 26 to Nov 2, Cristin returns to her Australian home away from home, the Gasworks Art Complex in Melbourne, Australia for a one night only performance. In addition to performing and a possible workshop at Gasworks, Cristin will also be performing at venues across the city including the infamous Babble Reading Series at Fitzroy’s Bar Open and at the Halloween night book launch of the works of brilliant Melbourne poet Sean Whelan.
Three long weeks of work of workshopping and rehearsals pay off at the Sydney Opera House premiere of “Mouth Off!!!” After it’s premiere, the show will continue its weeklong run (Oct 21 – Oct 25), which will include two matinees for high school students.
From Oct 7 through Oct 20, continuing work she started at the National Young Writers Festival, Cristin will continuing workshopping 6 of Australia’s best poets between the ages of 18 – 25 in creating a show, “Mouth Off!!” which will run for a week at the Sydney Opera House. Helping her with this endeavor is will be fellow mentor and aussie native, Morgan Lewis.
