The Website of Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz
From Oct 2 through Oct 6th, in association with her work with the noise fest and the Sydney Opera House, Cristin has been asked to participate in the 2003 National Young Writers Festival / This Is Not Art Festival ! In addition to performing in the multi-media showcase, Cristin will also be on several panels and will be hosting the Going Down Swinging Open mic with her bad ass aussie pal Adam Ford. For more information on Cristin’s performance, as well as what else is going on, check out their program.
As a part of her prize package for winning the Philadelphia Film Festival’s script competition, a short film inspired by Cristin’s film, Mütter, will be shot on location in historical Philadelphia and the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia. The short, directed by Philly native and Sundance wunderkind Eugene Martin, will be used to help pitch the scripts when Cristin goes to LA for meetings in early November. Check out the Philadelphia Inquirer‘s quick blurb on shoot (complete with a misspelled “Aptowicz”) here.
Cristin will be competing with her fellow NYC Urbana team members, Celena Glenn, Post-Midnight and Shawn Randall, throughout the week in Chicago’s Wicker Park Area. For more information and directions, please see the National Poetry Slam website (Aug 5 – Aug 9) at http://www.nps2003.com.
In an effort to interview as many bay area poets for her “Oral History of the Poetry Slam” book as possible, Cristin spent a week touring around the amazing Bay Area. Highlights include featuring at the San Jose Finals, which took place at the San Jose Art Museum (6.13.03), and being a featured performer at the Beth Lisick’s Gaslight Storytelling series (6.16.03).
Giving hope to alternates across the country, Cristin has been moved from 2003 alternate to the 2003 team member second time in three years. She will join fellow 2003 NYC Urbana team members, Celena Glenn, Post-Midnight and Shawn Randall as we defend our 2002 National Poetry Slam Co-Championship title this August in Chicago.
Beating out nearly 200 other scripts, Cristin’ s historical non-fiction script, Mütter received the Grand Prize in the Philadelphia Film Festival‘s annual script competition. She received $10,000, a DV short of her film as well as an all-expense paid trip to L.A. to help packaging and selling her script.
